Theoretical analysis of high-harmonic generation in solids.
We investigate theoretically high-harmonic generation (HHG) in bulk crystals exposed to intense midinfrared lasers with photon energies smaller than the band gap. The two main mechanisms, interband and intraband HHG, are explored. Our analysis indicates that the interband current neglected so far is the dominant mechanism for HHG. Saddle point analysis in the Keldysh limit yields an intuitive p...
متن کاملTheoretical description of high-order harmonic generation in solids
We consider several aspects of high-order harmonic generation in solids: the effects of elastic and inelastic scattering, varying pulse characteristics and inclusion of material-specific parameters through a realistic band structure. We reproduce many observed characteristics of high harmonic generation experiments in solids including the formation of only odd harmonics in inversion-symmetric m...
متن کاملModelling harmonic generation measurements in solids.
Harmonic generation measurements typically make use of the plane wave result when extracting values for the nonlinearity parameter, β, from experimental measurements. This approach, however, ignores the effects of diffraction, attenuation, and receiver integration which are common features in a typical experiment. Our aim is to determine the importance of these effects when making measurements ...
متن کاملHarmonic generation in solids with direct fiber laser pumping.
High harmonic generation in solids presents the possibility for bringing attosecond techniques to semiconductors and a simple source for frequency comb spectroscopy in the vacuum ultraviolet. We generate up to the seventh harmonic of a Tm fiber laser by focusing in silicon or zinc oxide. The harmonics are strong and stable, with no indication of material damage. Calculations show the potential ...

Review copy ± not for distribution (pss-logo will be inserted here by the publisher) pss-‐Header will be provided by the publisher 1 Introduction The continuous random network (CRN) has become the accepted model for homogeneously disordered materials, and for good reason: such atomistic models reproduce the experimentally observed properties of the materials, including some of the finer detail...
